Yesterday I stumbled upon a incredibly interesting blog written by a google employer called Steve Yegge, who is a former programmer for amazon. What sets him apart with the popular geeky blogs such as Joel's and Paul Graham's is the unabashed vitriol against some of the most popular programming languages in the world, most conspicuously C++, perl and java. He wrote a lot of articles on java, in which I can sense his love-hate relationship with it. He knows that Java is bound to be popular and he has been forced working with it more than any other language, but he still has a deep disgust against it. However, he said, java is less evil than perl. I feel that people growing up with lisp such as him naturally hates C-like syntax of java and dirty nature of perl compared with the pure mathematical beauty of lisp. Having read a few things about lisp in a famous cs intro book, I'd say that I disagree with it. All the talkings about the superiority of mathamatics doesn't make sense in my opinion. For (* insert ur favourite deity here)'s sake, mathematics is just a tool! You are supposed to make use of it, instead of worshipping it. There are many jobs than can be easily done with perl or java, while lisp applies only in the niche field of AI.

Man Dies Waiting for Eclipse to Launch

A software engineer in San Jose, CA was found dead at his desk yesterday, apparently having died while waiting for his Java editing program, Eclipse, to finish its boot process. Coworkers say the engineer came in that morning vowing to "get Eclipse working on his box or die trying." The last thing anyone heard him say aloud was the cryptic comment: "I see the splash screen is appropriately blue." Nobody knows what he meant. The man was then thought to have fallen asleep, but hours later it was discovered that the engineer had died suddenly of apparent natural causes. The forensics team's investigation that evening was reportedly interrupted unexpectedly when the dead man's Eclipse program suddenly finished launching. The team tried to interact with it to see if they could find clues about the man's death, but the program was unresponsive and the machine ultimately had to be rebooted. At this time, the police commissioner says there is no evidence of foul play, and they currently believe the man simply died of either boredom or frustration.
