As someone who has been working for the past 13 years, i disagree.

it is possible that silicon valley is an exception to the norm. But so far, I haven't felt been discriminated at all. and i have worked in multiple industries/companies.

if it is respect you are after, being good at what you do is the most important, with or without a phd.
