Dreaming is destiny
I think high of Richard Linklator's "A scanner Darkly" which will be released in July. It's based on a disturbing story by PKD, directed by my favorite director (remember "Before Sunset"?), featuring my favorite actor, Keanu Reeves(
). Is it made for me specially? Moreover, Charlie Kaufman ( Eternal Sunshine of Spotless Mind, Adaptation) wrote a draft of script and Radiohead will probably work on its soundtrack. WOW!!! Why all stuff and staff in this film are my idols? It is soooooo sweet.
I guess what binds them all is the title of this entry, "Dreaming is destiny".
You haven't met yourself yet. But the advantage to meeting others in
the meantime is that one of them may present you to yourself. Examine
the nature of everything you observe. For instance, you might find
yourself walking through a dream parking lot. And yes, those are dream
feet inside of your dream shoes. Part of your dream self. And so, the
person that you appear to be in the dream cannot be who you really are.

PKD + Richard Linklator + Keanu Reeves + Radiohead = Perfect!!!!
BTW: the visual effect is a little weird but suitable for PKD-type of story. I have been familiar with it since Linklator's "waking life" and it succeeded in making us feel in reality and in dreaming at the same time.
Update: Steven Soderbergh and George Clooney are among the executive producers. No wonder such a wonderful casting

Dick在1928年12月16日出生于芝加哥。他和他的双胞胎妹妹Jane是六个礼拜早产，Jane在转年一月死了。其后全家搬到加利福尼亚州。PKD
在Berkeley度过少年，并且在UC
Berkeley大学读了一段时间的德文专业。他在1952年（24岁）卖出第一个故事以前卖唱片和做DJ，那以后开始全职写作，并在1955年（27
岁）时出版了第一个小说。50年代对于PKD来说是个比较困难的年代，他自述中说，当时甚至付不出图书馆的过期罚款。他参加了六十年代先期加州的“反文
化”运动，并关注垮掉的一派和社会主义。1963年他的小说[高城堡里的人|The Man in the High
Castle]获得雨果奖。PKD反对越战并且因此在FBI挂上了号。
尽管PKD作为科幻界的天才起步，但由于主流文化对其并不赏识，他一边连续
出版小说一边过着贫困的日子，甚至到后来PKD也不怎么有钱。他曾有自述中说，和他政见完全相反，生活方式也截然不同的科幻小说家Robert
Heilein资助了他电子打字机又借给他一大笔钱来还给IRA。
在PKD十三岁时候曾经连续几个礼拜反复做同样一个梦：他梦见自己在一间书店
中，试图寻找一本期刊，在那一期中有一篇文章题为［帝国永不亡］，文中将对他揭示宇宙的秘密。梦在重复的当中，他所翻查的期刊越来越少，最终他是如此着急
要找到这篇文章而发现这期刊让他发疯。很快他不再做这个梦，并且再也没有做这个梦。但是“帝国永不亡”这个名字留下来出现在他以后的著作中。
1974年他在从拔出智齿的手术的麻醉剂中恢复过程中，注意到了敲门来送更多的止疼片的女人佩戴的坠子，并且称其Vesicle Pisces，
她离开以后PKD开始产生奇怪的幻觉，尽管这也许是去疼片的效果。在1974年的二月到三月之间他产生了一系列的幻觉，他称之为2-3-74。PKD形容
最初的幻觉为激光和几何图案，有时伴有基督和古罗马的短暂图像。在图像的长度和频率增长后，PKD宣称自己生活在双重生活之中，一个是他自己，另外一个则
是被古罗马处死的基督徒Thomas，PKD不管他的用药史，将这个幻觉作为现实的一部分，并相信他和某种神的个体有接触，他把它叫做斑马，上帝，或者，
更多时候称之为VALIS。
VALIS是“活动智慧生物超级系统”的缩写，PKD用这个词作为自己的一本小说的标题，并在接下去的三本小说中沿用这个概念。他还将VALIS理论化为“制造现实者”和“外星物”VALIS被描述为始于双鱼星座的一个人工卫星网络的节点。根据PKD所说，地球卫星使用粉红色的激光来传播信息并发送全息图来协助人类和一种外星物种的交流。
后面有点伤心，不翻译了，PKD一生沉迷于幻觉，结了五次婚，死于1982年，虽然Wikipedia上说他到后期越发paranoid，但基本上是每个天才都会有点paranoid。大家都知道的改编电影就不提了，Vanilla Sky 香草天空也是借用的PKD的half-life的概念。
